Position Summary
Activate is seeking a summer & fall intern to support the recruitment of applicants to the Activate Fellowship. In this role, your responsibilities will span across supporting applicant outreach efforts, partnering on marketing projects, conducting data management and analysis, and working on engagement efforts to expand and diversify our applicant pool. As Activate’s Recruitment Intern you’ll get the opportunity to explore the world of science entrepreneurship and generally join a growing, mission-driven non-profit organization poised to help tackle some of society’s greatest problems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Engage and support marketing activities across all recruitment activities including reviewing and updating marketing collateral, drafting email messages and social media content, and creating presentations to various audiences.
- Use project and data management tools to actively maintain recruitment data streams & activity logistics, and support reporting out to the team on progress.
- Support the recruitment strategy to systematically engage key contacts across higher education institutions, research labs, entrepreneurial incubators and accelerators, and other partners to disseminate information about the Activate Fellowship to potential applicants.
- Conduct research on existing and new channels to support the recruitment activities around new technical areas (i.e. ocean tech, semiconductors, carbon management, etc.)
- Support efforts to increase the diversity of the fellow applicant pool, including reaching and recruiting applicants from underrepresented communities.
- Work closely with the national and community fellowship, partnerships, and marketing teams to execute the recruitment strategy and timeline.
- Provide excellent customer service to potential applicants and prospective amplification partners via email and phone calls.
- Lead one proposed project to support recruitment and fellowship strategies over the course of the internship.
Ideal Candidate
- Has exceptional written and oral skills with a demonstrated ability to respect and encourage diverse perspectives.
- Has top-notch organizational skills and is highly detail-oriented.
- While Activate is a non-profit, it more closely resembles a start-up with a rapidly changing environment. Successful candidates need to be able to think critically, switch quickly between topics, track their own deliverables, be comfortable in a results-oriented culture, and be able to work independently and take initiative.
- Has experience with and/or working knowledge of data management, analytics, and reporting with the ability to learn or desire to be able to prepare dashboards, presentations, and narratives to communicate outcomes.
- Demonstrates creativity, resourcefulness, and flexibility.
- Is ideally familiar with project management (Asana, Notion), CRM/database (Hubspot, Airtable), and/or GSuite tools (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and is willing to learn others.
- Believes that scientists and engineers can lead the translation of their research and discoveries into products and businesses that address some of society’s greatest problems.
- Is interested in innovation, clean energy, climate, or manufacturing sector (or are willing to learn).
- Committed to fully engaging and collaborating in internship projects and responsibilities.
About the Role
This position is from May to October: 40 hours per week during the summer and 20-40 hours per week in the fall. This position is paid and U.S.-based. Preferably, candidates will be based in the Bay Area (CA), Boston (MA), New York (NY), or Houston (TX). However, candidates may work remotely from one of Activate’s operating states. This role is part of the Fellowship functional team and reports to the Outreach Associate with oversight from the Director of Fellowship Recruitment.
