Posted on Wednesday, May 1, 2024
Throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, Biobot has established itself as a global leader in wastewater intelligence. We have since grown to show how wastewater intelligence can support improving health outcomes across a variety of pathogens as well as support communities addressing the opioid epidemic. We’ve worked with customers across all 50 states and internationally, as well as with some of the largest global corporations on the planet.
We’re searching for an experienced Business Development Manager who can partner with multiple departments to drive measurable results that help build the bridge from current state to Biobot’s long-term revenue growth targets. Our ideal candidate will be able to implement effective sales strategies that expand our reach, strengthen client relationships, and train our sales professionals. You will be responsible for identifying sales prospects and leads for our existing products and collaborating with product and marketing to create compelling business cases.
Biobot also has many opportunities to grow, and this role will be key in figuring out what comes next: new markets, new products, new customer types. You will be responsible for assessing opportunities to expand the existing product suite into new areas of growth, as well as explore markets tangential to Biobot’s core that may require the creation of entirely new product offerings.
Biobot is looking for someone to join our team who is ready to be thoughtful, creative, and effective.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (What you will be doing):

    Market Expansion and Sales Support:
  • Deepen relationships with existing customers, understanding their needs and ensuring their success.
  • Support sales and marketing teams by developing key assets, clarifying value propositions, and identifying upsell opportunities.
  • Craft thought leadership content and strategic plans to enhance visibility and adoption of solutions.
  • Identify and establish partnerships with strategic channel partners.
  • Analyze the entire sales funnel to pinpoint and implement enhancements.
  • Validate market demand signals and strategize for top-of-funnel expansion.
  • Strategic Market Penetration:
  • Lead the charge in expanding the sales of current products into new markets.
  • Design and execute testable hypotheses, through iterative cycles of data-driven research, interviews, and pilot contracts.
  • Coordinate with product, marketing, and sales to identify and implement structured pilots that generate actionable insights.
  • Facilitate early sales engagements transitioning from pilots to early contracts with high-touch customer support, setting the stage for scalable growth.
  • Identify and foster partnerships with potential channel partners that align with our core competencies and long-term strategy.
  • Product and Market Innovation:
  • Collaborate with the product team to bring the voice of the customer from existing markets in order to enhance existing and develop new products.
  • Stay abreast of market trends and support visionary, blue-sky thinking for paradigm-shifting new products and customer segments that will allow Biobot to achieve its mission of improving health outcomes through wastewater intelligence

Qualifications:

    Required:
  • Advanced business education: MBA or similar degree preferred. Can instead be demonstrated through work experience in management consulting or other roles requiring broad understanding of business strategy, management, and finance.
  • Professional experience: Substantial professional experience in corporate or startup environments. Experience in both settings is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Analytical proficiency: Demonstrated strong analytical skills, with ability to formulate and test hypotheses. Comfort executing complex data analytics tasks independently.
  • Project management expertise: Track record of independently managing successful projects. Experience should include setting KPIs, managing budgets, and leading projects from concept to completion. Project or product management certifications (agile, scrum, pmp) are preferred, but not required.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Demonstrated success in cross-functional roles in which you achieved successful outcomes while collaborating with diverse stakeholders, both internally and externally, with care, compassion, and respect.
  • Autonomy in execution: Ability to operate independently in a dynamic environment, adapting quickly to evolving challenges.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Excellent communication abilities, capable of engaging and influencing stakeholders through clear, persuasive, and respectful interactions.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with contracts and negotiations: Prior experience crafting and negotiating contracts and managing pilot projects with external partners.
  • Experience with communications, marketing, or sales: Prior experience working in or collaborating closely with communications, marketing, or sales is preferred.

About Biobot
At Biobot, we are working together to build a team environment in which everyone can thrive and is proud to belong. We are an equal opportunity employer and our goal is to be a diverse team that is representative, at all job levels, of the society we live in. We encourage applications from candidates of all identities and backgrounds, including those who are traditionally underrepresented in technology startups.
Our mission is to transform wastewater infrastructure into public health observatories.
Named as one of Fast Company’s most innovative companies in the world in 2021, Biobot Analytics is a wastewater epidemiology company and uses technology developed at MIT to measure biomarkers in sewage to better understand population health in cities. We first launched an opioid product to support government and public health officials in responding to the opioid epidemic, and in 2020 launched a Covid19 product to estimate the scope and trend of the outbreak in communities. We have operated in almost 500 communities across 43 U.S. states, generating Covid19 case estimates for over 13% of the U.S. population.
Battling the opioid epidemic and now the Covid19 pandemic is just the beginning - we’re transforming sewage into a data asset and building a public health database. Eventually, Biobot data will be an early warning system for disease outbreaks, a map of nutrition disparities, and more. Headquartered in the Boston area with an office in NYC, we aim to create the bedrock of human health infrastructure and smart cities in countries across all six continents.
