Our mission

Boom is on a mission to level the playing field for the 110+ million renters in the US by making housing more flexible, affordable, and rewarding. We’ve started by building an app to help renters build credit with their largest monthly expense: the rent payment. We are led by a team of second-time founders Rob Whiting (ex-BCG, Rubicon) and Kirill Moizik (Eco, Technion, Grubhub). It's backed by investors such as Starting Line, Clocktower Ventures, Gilgamesh Ventures (Petal co-founders), and angels such as William Hockey and Zach Perret (Co-founders of Plaid) who led Boom's pre-seed round (joined by Harry Stebbings and others from places like Cash App, Mint House, Landis, Party Round, and Redfin).

Opportunity

We have a robust product roadmap on both the B2C and B2B side, with increasing demands from our users and B2B partners. As such, we're seeking an additional strong backend engineer who ideally has Ruby experience. In this role, you'll help define and build our tech stack alongside our most senior engineers and our Co-founders to scale our current core product and launch new products and user experiences. Role can be remote. Our leadership team is based in Austin, TX, but most of the engineering team is remote. Our engineering team is a non-nonsense team that ships real product and has high standards. What you'll do

• Implement and own the development, launch and maintenance of critical path user-facing products and features
• Help shape the core backend infrastructure
• Work closely with operations and product to align the tech stack with the product trajectory
• Play an integral role in establishing the engineering team and company culture; participate in hiring, and if all goes well over time, build out a team under you

What you'll need

• Experience as a full-stack engineer, ideally shipping mobile products in an early-stage environment
• Strong Ruby background
• Preferred: Experience working in languages used in our stack, which other than Ruby includes React / React Native, Heroku, AWS; PostgreSQL for DB
• Empathy for end user needs, such as those of low/moderate-income renters
• Ownership mindset and comfort operating in an ambiguous environment
• Bonus: Fintech and payments experience
