Our mission

Boom is on a mission to level the playing field for the 110+ million renters in the US by making housing more flexible, affordable, and rewarding. Boom is building a suite of rental financial services for renters and property managers, including applicant underwriting, rent payment reporting, rent reporting-as-a-service, and a number of integrations with the largest property management systems (PMS). Boom serves renters through the Boom App and property managers via the Boom Platform. Boom is led by second-time founders Rob Whiting (ex-BCG, Rubicon) and Kirill Moizik (Eco, Technion, Grubhub). It's backed by investors such as Starting Line, Clocktower Ventures, Mischief VC (CEO of Plaid Zach Perret's fund), Gilgamesh Ventures (Petal co-founders), and angels such as William Hockey CEO of Column, founder/former CTO of Plaid) and Harry Stebbings. Boom has been profiled by Inman, Business Insider, HousingWire, and more.

Opportunity

The QA Analyst is responsible for ensuring product quality, reliability, and consistency across the Boom platform. This role owns manual and exploratory testing, bug identification, and quality verification across web, mobile, and integrations, with a strong emphasis on customer impact, edge case coverage, and release readiness.

At Boom, quality directly affects property manager trust and renter experience. A payment that fails, a report that breaks, or a workflow that confuses users can erode confidence fast. You'll partner closely with product, engineering, and customer success to catch issues before they reach customers, document clear reproduction steps, and advocate for fixes that matter most.

This is a hands-on testing role for someone who enjoys breaking things to make them better and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This role is based in Austin, TX.

What you'll do

  • Manual and exploratory testing: Execute test plans across new features, regressions, and edge cases to identify bugs, UX issues, and inconsistencies before release
  • Bug documentation and triage: Write clear, reproducible bug reports with screenshots, steps, expected vs actual behavior, and severity assessment
  • Release validation: Own final QA sign-off for production releases, ensuring features work as intended and critical paths are stable
  • Cross-browser and device testing: Test across browsers, operating systems, and mobile devices to ensure consistent behavior for all users
  • Integration testing: Validate third-party integrations (payment processors, accounting systems, banking partners) to ensure data accuracy and reliability
  • Regression testing: Maintain and execute regression test suites to catch unintended side effects from new code or configuration changes
  • Collaboration with product and engineering: Partner with PMs and developers to clarify requirements, reproduce issues, and verify fixes in staging and production
  • Customer-focused testing: Use real customer workflows and scenarios to identify usability issues and ensure product changes align with user needs
  • Test documentation: Create and maintain test cases, checklists, and QA standards to support consistent quality over time is accurate, on-brand, well-structured, and detail-oriented, with a strong editorial standard

What you'll need

  • 2+ years of professional QA or software testing experience
  • Experience testing web and mobile applications in a SaaS or fintech environment
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to assess product behavior beyond documented acceptance criteria
  • Comfortable working in an evolving product environment with changing or incomplete requirements and ability to proactively clarify requirements, identify gaps, and adapt testing approach accordingly
  • Comfort writing clear, structured bug reports with reproduction steps, screenshots, and severity context
  • Familiarity with browser dev tools, network inspection, and basic debugging techniques
  • Experience in API integration testing
  • Ability to balance thoroughness with speed in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Strong written communication skills and comfort collaborating cross-functionally with product and engineering
  • Experience testing payment flows, financial systems, or compliance-sensitive features is a plus
  • Exposure to test automation tools or scripting is a plus, but not required

Benefits of working at Boom

  • Competitive salary with stock options
  • Full healthcare coverage (health, dental, vision) including 50% coverage for dependents
  • 15 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) per year + 3 sick days + all US federal holidays (11 in total) (note: we think unlimited PTO is BS and causes some employees to feel guilty when they take it)
  • Company-issued laptop/MacBook
  • Company-sponsored training & development
  • Regular off-sites, retreats, and other company-sponsored events and travel opportunities
